At the fall-time of the year, we always take a day and go to the Red Barn Pumkin Patch. This year was no different. We chose a warm day, got together, had a spagetti dinner and went to the pumkin patch. It was fun and the kids loved it. Hopefully they will remember these good times.

A DAY IN PAYSON CANYON

We took a day this summer while Angie and Mike and their family were in Utah to hike up Payson Canyon to the Grotto. After the hike, we roasted hot dogs and made semores in the Canyon Park. It was a great day to make some memories and enjoy the beautiful place we live.

After 37 years of marriage and working and working and working, we finally took a seven-day cruise aboard the brand new Carnival Splendor. After many days of pre-cruise stress, we flew out of Salt Lake City early on Sunday morning, June 7th. I had my normal airport stress attack, but things went pretty smoothly. When we got to LAX, my stress returned about finding our transfer and getting to the Port of Long Beach. When we got to the port, all I could see was this old ship with three big smokestacks. I thought this will be a bummer of a cruise, but it turned out to be the Queen Mary which was the Ocean Liner that brought my dad back from the War in Europe when it ended. Our real ship is pictured below. I'm a little less stressed, but still had to wait around and then go through the boarding procedures. While we were waiting for our luggage and stateroom, we boarded and went to a deck where they had a buffet lunch ready for us. We were able to relax on the deck in a deck chair and wait for the ship to sail. The speaker came on and sounded a life jacket evacuation drill, but we thought it was only for the crew. After awhile, we noticed everyone had left the deck and pools and we were alone on deck. I crew member came by and told us we had to go to this drill, so we got our life jackets and stood with 4,000 other people for about a 45 minute get off the boat if it sinks drill. That did not make me feel much better. Anyway, it turned out to be a good cruise, the weather was great and the ports were beautiful. Our cabin stewart told me Debbie had brought enough clothing and shoes to clothe her whole country, but it worked out. Below are a few pictures from the cruise.

THE WHOLE POINT OF THE CRUISE WAS FOR MOM TO PUT HER FEET IN THE WATER ON A SANDY BEACH.....THE ONLY ONE SHE FOUND WAS THIS LITTLE BIT OF BEACH THE SIZE OF OUR LIVING ROOM. TO GET TO IT, SHE HAD TO CLIMB DOWN A CLIFF, AND FELL THE LAST TEN FEET.

OUR SHIP DOCKED IN ASTORIA NEXT TO A HOTEL. THE SHIP WAS 900 FEET LONG, 240 FEET HIGH, AND 120 FEET WIDE.

VICTORIA BRITISH COLOMBIA CANADA WAS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE.

MOM IN FRONT OF SOME OF THE FLOWERS IN BUTCHARD GARDENS WHERE WE SPENT A FEW HOURS. IT WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP ALONG WITH THE BLOWER HAND DRYERS IN THE RESTROOMS ON THE BOAT....THEY WERE AWSOME.

Debbie contends that Gary never dresses up in anything but sweats. These next three photos show that is not the case. Most days you can find him dressed up in up-scale clothing and dapper head wear. Here are three examples

We all had a good time even though it was cold and wet. In fact it is April 15 and I am sitting here watching large snowflakes fall outside as I write this. We ate hot dogs, salsa, chips, and desert. Grandpa leaned all the grandkids against him and watched a movie while the girls visited and the boys went to do a contruction project for Mike and Ali. Other than Nate getting schocked, all went well. We gathered again for a supper of sloppy joes and other goodies. We all had a good time and returned to our homes in safety. We are going to be very busy for the next few months with birthdays, Disneyland trips, trip to Arizona, and summer activities.

February 14th, 2009 brought Izzy, Scout, and Grey over to Grandma and Grandpa's house to do fun things, watch movies, and eat popcorn and creamies. Grey decided to help Grandma make valentine cookies because Grandma was not feeling very well. He was a big help and we now have many heart shaped cookies.

Trip To Oregon for Grandpa Haney's Birthday

On Friday, February 6, we took off for Oregon to surprise Grandpa Haney for his birthday. Gary and Deb rode up with Mike, Ali and their family in Mike's new Buick. Nate, Amy and their familiy drove up, and Angie flew into Boise from Phoenix and we picked her up at the airport. We all met in Ontario and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which was really nice. We almost had the hotel to ourselves and the family spent much time in the swimming pool. Saturday morning, we all went out to Grandpa's house and surprised him. He could not believe all the kids who kept coming into his house. Later, we met other members of the family at a restaurant in Ontario where we had a banquet room with Mexican food for his party. We gave Grandpa, and Grandma a new Kodak viewer and loaded pictures on it for them to watch. We spent the day with family and then Sunday returned to our respective homes. It was a fast trip, but it was good to make the effort to visit Oregon. I know it was a major expense for everyone, but I know Grandpa and Grandma appreciated it, and I know Grandma Deb did also. Speaking of which, Grandma Deb slipped on a combination of ice and rabbit poo and took a bad fall. She is sore, and bled alot, but should pull through. I was just glad she did not get any blood on Mike's new car.

I don't have a picture to put with my story today, but I wanted to relate what happened to me last night. I had a Halloween Experience.

I got home from work with just enough daylight to go walk Maggie at the Cemetery like we try to do each day. I always park by my dad's grave and walk a half mile circut six times. As it was getting dark, I decided to stay out on the west side of the cemetery where there are no trees to subdue what little light there was. As I came around, I decided to conquer my fears and go down into the darkness of the old part of the cemetery. There were no other cars or people in the cemetery (except the dead ones). I was walking up the road on the East side when all of a sudden I heard footsteps right behind me. I began to walk a little faster hoping the footsteps would go away, but they walked faster to keep pace with me. Finally, I decided to stop and see what or who was following me. I stopped, turned, and saw a human like figure in white shorts and T-shirt. He had thick black hair on his head, arms, face, and legs. As he passsed he turned, kind of smiled, and said in a deep growel, "HOWDY". I am sure he was a werewolf. He may have been a Cowboy Werewolf, but he was ugly and hairy. I tried to keep an eye on him, but he moved so smoothly I soon lost him in the darkness of the cemetery. Finally, I emerged from the trees and could see him walking ahead of me back into the dark. As I started my next circut into the tree lined part of the cemeter once again, I could see him turn the corner ahead of me. He disappeared behind a pine tree and I did not see him emerge on the other side. As Maggie and I walked again up the East side of the cemetery, Maggie stopped, her ears came up and she was staring at something in the thick bushes to the right of us. I thought I was doomed, but it turned out to be two men checking the fenceline.

I finished my 2nd mile and decided it was time to leave the cemetery and go home. Maggie wanted to stay, I'm guessing because she felt a kinship with another canine, the werewolf.
This is a true story and I am sure the werewolf was just some hairy cowboy walking the cemetery on a Hallows Eve. I am going back tonight and if I see him again, I will smile and say "Howdy".

Izzy and Scout's Birthday Party

We drove up to Camas Utah for Izzy and Scout's Birthday Party. It was Saturday afternoon and was beautiful weather. We picked Brooke up at the mouth of the canyon. We went to the Rec Center and enjoyed swimming and diving. Izzy jumped several times off the low board and then got brave and jumped off the high dive. It is about a 25 foot drop. Everyone had fun in the water. The baby twins even enjoyed the water with their mom and dad. Debbie and I watched and cuddled kids and enjoyed the party. We had pizza, pop, creamies, and cake. We had our annual day at the Pumpkin Patch. We all met at the Red Barn in Santaquin and waited for all to arrive. Mike was riding his motorcycle down and Ali brought the truck. Nate was deer hunting, so missed the outing this year. We had a hay ride out to the patch and then scattered in all directions looking for just the right pumpkin. When we finished, we all met back at Grandma and Grandpa's house for hot soup and goodies. It was a fun afternoon, but everyone was worn out at the end of the day. We got together with some of my old missionary companions the first week of October. There were only 10 of us in our mission. We were called as an experiment to work with the Cuban Refugees coming into Miami Florida. Because we were so few, we became very close. A few of us have stayed in contact over the years. It was good to see them again. I made a CD of photos and we watched them and visited about good memories. A general authority once told us we were especially called and individually selected to open the work with the Spanish People in that area of the world.

Bear Lake Family Reunion 2008

We had our annual Bear Lake Family Reunion again this year. It came a little later than usual, but was still a lot of fun. We got up to the Cabin Sunday evening and got settled in. Mom and Dad got the master bedroom as usual, and the rest of the family spread out into different rooms. Jeff and Brooke ended up sleeping way up high in the loft. The small kids thought it was their own special playroom. We had a good dinner and visited and played some fun games. We finally got the kids into bed, Nate found the X-box, and we played with it and visited until late. The next morning, we loaded up the boat and all the family and drove up to the North Beach. When we got there, it was closed and we could not launch the boat. We decided to stay and play on the beach, but it was so cold and windy, we only lasted about a half hour. During that time, we had a fun game of Dirty Diaper Tag where we tried to hit each other with a rolled up diaper. Jeff and Amy had a game of chase and wrestle in the cold sand. We then decided to go to the Garden City Beach and see what it was like. It was beautiful and warm. We launched the boat and spent most of the day on the water and at the beach. Ali prepared lunch, we played in the water, wake boarded, and Mom did the annual sand dig for the family. She burried toys and candy in the sand over a 100 foot area and everyone had a good time digging for treasure. One of the hits on the beach this year was a teather ball game which everyone played and had fun with. I'm not sure who the champions were. Mike, Ali and their family left late Monday night. We were sad to see them go, but still had fun without them. Tuesday we went to the beach in the morning and had fun until a big rain storm hit us. We all crammed into our Mazda Tribute and went back to the cabin. The girls decided to go on a shopping trip and the guys stayed at the cabing and played. We later watched a movie and decided to go back to the beach. We capped off the day with a great meal at the Bear's Den Stakehouse. We got kids in bed and played games the rest of the night. Wednesday, we slept in, had a good lunch and went to the beach for awhile. It was really cold that day, so we did not stay long. In the afternoon, Mom, Dad, Brooke, and Jeff loaded up, help clean the cabin and left for home. Amy, Nate, and their family stayed the night and left the next day. The twins were great little campers and did not fuss at all even in the cold times at the beach. We had a great time and look forward to next year. Hopefully we can plan it when Angie and Kevin's families can come also. Hear is the cabinMom and Dad keeping the twins warm

Payson City Onion Days Parade

The annual Labor Day Parade at Payson lived up to my expectations. Since I have only been to a handful of parades over the years, I decided I would go and be a good sport and stay for the whole parade no matter what. I did secretly pray for rain so none of the family would want to go, but it did not rain at first. Mom, Jeff and I went down a couple of hours early and set up our chairs in front of the old middle school. Mom stayed and read a book while Jeff and I went home and got warm. I fixed a big thermos of hot chocolot for mom and took it back down. Soon Amy and Nate and their four kids came, and Mike and Ali and their family got there. We were all cold, but we bundled up and waited for the parade to start. As the parade started, it began to sprinkle a little rain. We were OK huddled together. As the parade continued, it began to pour rain. I ran through the park to my car to get some plastic covers to put over us and when I got back, everyone had run for their cars except Mom, Brooke, and Adi. Ali asked me to carry Scout to their truck and she took Grey to her mom"s car. Scout was freezing and crying, so I grabbed her and ran for Mike's truck. It was about two blocks away. As Scout and I approached the truck, I saw the backup lights come on. Right as I reached for the handle to get Scout and I to warm safety, Mike pulled off and left us standing in the freezing rain. I stood there holding Scout in the middle of the road waving, but to no avail. Mike finally came back to pick up Scout. Because we were the only ones still watching the parade, Mike took Scout up and down the road picking up candy. Finally, it was just Mom, her best little friend Adi, Brooke and I watching empty floats and trailers go by. After the parade, we went and ate a hot scone which did not stay hot long. I tried to talk Adi into going home as she was turning blue from the cold, but she was a real trooper and stuck it out. Finally I put Adi on my shoulders and left Mom and Brooke at the Park. Adi was glad to get home and into a hot tub to warm up. The girls and kids spent the afternoon attending the community theater production of Beauty and the Beast while the guys napped, played pool, and watched football. I cannot wait for next year to attend the parade once again......Nate, Amy and the Babies waiting for the parade.We are excited for the parade to start.

Early one Saturday morning, Mom, Jeff, Mike, Ali and their family decided to go boating at Deer Creek Reservoir. They had a good time and spent the day getting in as much boarding as possible. Mike and Jeff getting ready to go. Izzy did not want to get into the cold water.

The Great Squirrel Hunt

One night, Jeff came home from work, went into the scrapbook room and saw a squirrel running around the room. He quickly shut the door to trap the varmint. I did not believe him until Mom told me she had seen a squirrel sitting on the front fountain when she went out to get the paper. With the door open, the squirrel decided to go into the air-conditioned house. Jeff got his fishing net and flashlight. Dad got his laundry basket and broomstick. Mom was brave and came into the room and stood up on a chair to take pictures..(like squirrels can't climb) We tried to scare the varmint out but it was in hiding. Jeff decided to bring Maggie the killer dog into the room to flush out the critter. Maggie was so excited to be in the house she did not even notice the squirrel scent. Next we tried to bribe the furry one with grapes and nuts, but no luck. Mom and I began to doubt Jeff's eyesight and decided there was no squirrel. We shut the door and went to bed hoping Jeff was seeing shadows. The next day, Jeff again saw the squirrel running across the desk. Again we tried to flush him out but no luck. Finally Dad had a brainstorm and opened the windows and propped open the screens. The squirrel saw freedom and left the house sometime during the day. Now Mom does not have to sleep standing on a chair in the dining room.

Summer's End

The Fourth of July 2008 came and we enjoyed our annual fun-er-rama. We decided to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house this year to avoid the crowds and high gas prices we encounter when we go to Provo. We had games, swimming, great food, and fireworks. Everyone had a good time and we enjoyed being together as a family. We missed Angie and Mike and their family as they were in Arizona, and Kevin and Karri in Salt Lake. Our thoughts were with you. Fireworks going off sideways......that is a trick

Hi Everyone,

We finally have a day off from activity to sit down and update the blog. We have had a busy last couple of weeks. We packed and got ready to go to beautiful Nat Yo Pa Idaho for the Haney family reunion which Debbie was in charge of. We took Grandma with us and left her beside the freeway and hope her brother would find her and keep her for a few days. She stayed with her brother Floyd in Wendell while we attended the reunion. Debbie was very busy at the reunion as the organizer, the photographer, and the socializer. I visited with those I knew and made one new friend. I helped with setup and dishes and went for a long walk until I met up with four dogs who did not want me walking past their house. I turned around at that point and decided to sit on a small culvert pipe and rest before starting back the three miles or so I had come. As I sat down on the culvert to rest, I must have disturbed a rattle snake who was in the culvert to get out of the sun. He, (or she.....who knows) came slithering out between my legs. It was about three feet long and motivated me to get moving on my return walk. We packed up on Sunday, drove over to look at the new Twin Falls Temple and picked Grandma up at the side of the freeway. We left the camper at Floyds and went on up to Ontario. We left Grandma at her sisters home and got a motel room in Ontario. We spent three good days there visiting and going through family histories, sorting pictures and making copies of pictures and documents. We spent a day with Neva and Bennie, two nights with Dar and Kathy, and a day with Bob. Debbie bought a recorder and got her dad talking about his growing up years. We have never heard him talk as he did. He talked for about four hours. Debbie was able to clear up some stories, heard new stories and it was really interesting and enjoyable to sit there and listen to Grandpa Haney.
I took a few hours to go around Ontario and try to recall memories of my youth. I took a few pictures and recorded some of my thoughts. I am going to try to work on my history this year.
We packed up and grabbed Grandma and came home. We had the opportunity to take care of Mike and Ali's kids for a week and really enjoyed it. It was good to bond with them. Today is the 24th of July and my summer is almost over. Here are some pictures to update our past couple of weeks.

Fourth of July Fun-er-ama

It is Sunday afternoon and we just finished watching possibly the greatest tennis match in history....the Wimbledon Men's Final. Mom is now asleep and Jeff and I are bonding on our laptops.
We had a good 4th of July holiday weekend. Jeff planned out his 3rd annual 4th of July Funerama. He was out in the dark Thursday night mowing the lawn. Friday, Mom, Jeff, Mike, Ali and the kids went boating at deer creek reservoir while I stayed home and prepared things for the funerama. We had the playground, the pool, badminton net, awning, tables and chairs set up. Those attending were the Mitchell family, Mike, Ali and their family, Grandma, Maggie, Mom, Dad, Jeff, and Brooke. Jeff's friend Annette also came. For food, we had Bar-B-Que Ribs, potato salad, corn on the cob, chips, cherry choc. cake, blueberry cheese cake and apple pie. When it got dark, we all went out front and lit off fireworks. Even though we did not go over to Provo this year, I think everyone enjoyed the day and it was less hastle and stress for all.....especially for me.

We had a great time, but were missing Angie, Mike and their family. We got used to having them close. We also missed Kevin and Kerri, but Kerri is not feeling too well.

june....... what can I say!?! It has been busy here from day one.

angie and mike,and the kids from arizona, they brought hot summer weather with them, b's B-day, fathers day, kev's b-day and the twins b-day. it's been so much fun having everyone here off and on throughout the month. i think this will be the beginning of grammie debs annual "gramma camp"

sorry, while the guys were off golfing I was watching six kiddlelids in the pool and i didnt take any photos. yes , thats right, i did not take any photos. another highlight in june, dad had two major dr. appts. yes one doc said his hearing was fine he just cant hear women and children. Go figure!! grammie loves all of you little guys, you big guys too!! feel free to comment about my typing and lack of capitalization.

Four jobs I have had in my life:
1. Cleaning a Butcher Shop,..almost got my fingers caught in a hamburger making machine...got fired.
2. Making Cinder Blocks,..put gas in the radiator on the fork lift...got fired.
3. Bossing three women putting hashbrowns into boxes..I used to speed up the boxes and they would get way behind...I got fired.
4. Joining wood moulding pieces together..ran 21 slivers into my thigh...got fired.
